*What Are Good Things?
Good things have one or more of the following qualities: they are produced with love; they evoke joy; and they are created with the intention of making the world a better place.
Good things include but are not limited to: public and indie media; arts and culture; and health and wellness.
My Background
I started my career as a producer for Washingtonpost.com, then moved on to PBS, where I fell in love with public media and went on to become the director of PBS.org. During my tenure, PBS.org was the #1 media and nonprofit website, according to Nielsen NetRatings.
When I decided to go freelance in '06 (the lifestyle was just too alluring), I continued working with public and independent media orgs, as well as with other cultural organizations and nonprofits and a handful of start-ups. Clients include NPR, PBS, The Paley Center for Media, Clean Plates, P.O.V., MediaShift, and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. I've also focused on personal blogging projects, from Creative DC (archived when I moved to New York in 2009) to my current blog here at amandahirsch.com.
I also have extensive public speaking experience, and have given talks on topics like telling your story online and social media for venues such as the National Film Board of Canada, the National Press Club and the American Press Institute.
I'm also an improviser, and I've spent the last 6 years performing in New York, Chicago and Washington, DC. I'm passionate about applying lessons from the art of improv to everyday life and work, and together with my husband, Jordan, I lead workshops that do just that (our improv workshop was voted an audience favorite at SXSW 2010).
So, that's me. For more about me, read my bio. You can also follow me on Twitter, or check out what I'm reading.
